Implementation Plan for Continuing Medical Education of General Practitioners/Family Doctors for Adults

 

  Courses of continuing medical education for primary health care level for family doctors are basic form of education. They are organized by Faculty of Medicine, University of Montenegro- family medicine department.

  They are organized as thematic one-day modules for limited number of attendants (optimally 30 family doctors for adults according to previously made lists based on territorial map)

  Presenters are teachers and associates of the Family medicine Department of Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica and guest lecturers for certain topics ( Family medicine teachers from Slovenia and teachers of clinical subjects from Faculty of Montenegro in Podgorica).

  It has been planned that eight modules are held on monthly level in 2016, with the exception of  July and August . Each module will be presented with the same content and form in nine or ten groups of the planned attendants.

  They will be held at Faculty of Medicine of University of Montenegro in Podgorica, facilities used by the Department of Family medicine.

  Methodology of CME

1. Previous introduction of attendants with the topics of the module (the materials should be sent electronically in written form, using electronic health record and the possibility of a free of charge and prompt distribution, acknowledging the receipt of email)

2. Module scheme: Module is presented on one-day basis and consists of entrance test, lecture, workshop on the same topic that is being discussed simultaneously in three small groups, with solving the tasks from clinical illustrations, discussion and bringing conclusions, other lectures on the same topic, workshop on the same principal as the first one, and afterwards a half hour discussion in the plenum with coming to conclusions from all three groups, adjusting them with the leaders and bringing mutual conclusions that will serve as basis in the further practical work. At the end all the attendants take an exit test and fill an anonymous questionnaire to grade the module.

3. Proof of successfully completed test is basis for earning points with the Medical Chamber of Montenegro needed for license renewal.

1. Rational use of the antibiotics in the primary health care (March 2016)

2. Artery hypertension – modern primary health care approach, collaboration with the specialists (April 2016)

3. Urinary tract infections- primary health care approach (May 2016)

4. Comorbidity: importance and priorities (June 2016)

5. Communication at the primary health care clinic

6. Home care and home treatment (October 2016)

7. Approach to a ''serious patient'', ''frequent visitor'' November 2016)

8. Evaluation of work capacity as a public authorization of the family doctor (December 2016)

9. Rational application of medication in the primary health care clinic

10. Diabetes mellitus type II – diagnostics, therapy, observation on the primary health care level, collaboration with the specialists

11. Asthma and Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: guidance on the primary health care level

12. Problems of abdominal pains: primary health care approach

13. Headache:  primary health care approach

14. Chest pain: primary health care approach

15. Acute poisoning: primary health care approach

16. Depression: primary health care approach

17. Back pain in the primary health care clinic

18. Treatment with psychotropic medications on the primary health care level, collaboration with the specialists

19. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation ( exercises in the demonstration lab of the Faculty of Medicine)

20. Oncological patients: primary health care approach

21….. and other topics proposed by general practitioners, that are viable

  In 2016. first eight topics from this list will be treated. Others are planned for realization in 2017. and 2018., all towards maintaining continuity of additional education.

  Attendants and presenters:

  • It is expected that the attendants of the additional education are all family doctors for adults that are up to 60 years of age, and for them the attendance is mandatory ( for the ones over 60 years of age it is on voluntary base) and all the specialists of the family medicine. Groups are formed in agreement with their employers, and according to the necessity for the maintaining the work continuity, shift work and territorial map.
  • Presenters: lecturers and workshop managers will be teachers and associates of the Family medicine Department of the Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica, teachers of the other subjects at the Faculty of Medicine in Podgorica, as well as guest lecturers – eminent teachers at the Faculty of medicine in Ljubljana and Maribor.
  • Attendants, their employers and presenters will be informed beforehand about the schedule
